On office days we spend lunch break playing soccer in the field across the road.
It’s pretty much the only time Bubba gets to be off leash outside. I keep his leash attached in case I need to grab him quickly, but he stays close by and loves to chase the ball.
Seagull feathers and goose poop are still more interesting than soccer.
Please please please don’t leave his leash attached while he is running and playing.
I don’t know if you remember our lab Jack, but he tripped on his leash during play like this and had a devestating knee injury, with multiple complications that ultimately involved having to put him down. It is just too big of a tripping hazard to have that lead tangling in the dog’s legs. You could put a short 1 ft lead on him instead, that would still give you a handle but not be a tripping hazard.
I do remember Jack- but didn’t know that’s how his original injury occured. You’ve convinced me- no more playing with the leash attached! It’s just about as easy to grab him by the harness and you’re right, not worth the risk. I guess I never thought about a dog tripping before.
